Press Reports About Long Term Sickness Rates

Hi

There are frequent press reports that the labour market is tight because rates of people with long term illnesses have shot up.

Is your understanding consistent with these reports? Have applications for ESA & PIP risen to match what is being said about overall sickness rates rising?

The concern is whether this govt. will order another clampdown on said benefits by making it virtually impossible to qualify for anything….

Thank you

A

Hi Augustus

You raise a very good question, there was an article on the news today about the number of disable people claiming benefits and the number of job vacancies.

The DWP do keep statistics, if you have signed up to our free news letter, these are reported every now and again.

I have been looking for a job for a close relative and get job vacancy emails from a number of agencies. A lot of the jobs advertised are "ghost" jobs. When you click through the links the jobs are either closed, withdrawn or filled. They just don't exist. So I don't believe the figures quoted on job vacancies.
One thing I have noted is the number of positions available for Nurse Assessors to permanently work from home.
