SDP and renting in a shared house was created by Sidhu123
Hello, I’m in receipt of HB ESA in support group and PIP. I will have to move from my rented property soon but as rents are so high I’m looking to rent in a shared room, my question is would this affect my SDP payments, or would I still receive them as I will have a tenancy agreement?

Hi Sidhu123

Seperate liability - If you share a living room or kitchen with other people but are separately liable to pay your landlord for the accommodation, you won't count as residing with those other people even if they are close relatives. This would typically cover someone in supported lodgings.
ESA Regs, reg 71(6)-(7); IS Regs, reg3(4)-(5)
