Hi, I am due a PIP assessment by phone after waiting over a year since filling out and sending in the paperwork. I've been on PIP and ESA for over 10 years so this is new to me. I have a condition that gets worse with age, so these things just cause me even more stress. Especially waiting over a year.
What I'm concerned about is in F2F assessments the person doing the assessments can see obvious signs of disability, pain and distress.
How are the assessors able to really assess us properly if they can't see how we look?
Whatever type of assessments people have F2F, telephone, paper-based and more recently, video - unfortunately, there are plenty of people who will say the assessor has ignored all or some aspects of their medical condition. Many people have been glad to have a telephone assessment rather than F2F - some have succeeded, and others haven't.
All you can do is work with the current system and try and get over how you manage your mobility and daily living. You could ask for your telephone assessment to be changed to F2F if you want it to.
