I have been away on holiday to my sisters in California for three weeks which turned into four weeks when BA cancelled my return flight from San Francisco, the reason for such a long break it was really R&R as I was in hospital 3 times in the run up to christmas and my wife booked the break to give me something to look forward to.
On my return I have a letter posted on the ninth of May telling me I had a phone interview on the 15 and if I did not attend I could lose my benefits PIP both at higher rate,. I am going to try and call them tomorrow morning but I don't want to say the wrong thing and I want to know where I stand with losing my benefit
Just ring and explain you were on holiday when the letter arrived. Emphasize that you only expected to be away for three weeks and tell them the reasons for your extended stay. (If you had planned to be away for four weeks, then you should have informed the DWP before you went). Hopefully, they haven't already closed your claim because they didn't hear from you about your assessment on the 15th.
If they have closed your claim, ask to speak to a case manager. If you get no joy, you may have to try and involve your MP and see if they can intervene on your behalf. I hope it doesn't come to that.
