DLA renewal claims was created by LORNA
Hi, just received my renewal claim form for DLA, this is not the short version but the longer form.
Question is are they treating me as a NEW claimant???
Also does the new DM know that i have claimed previously and at what rate i was awarded??
I was awarded DLA for a year only on my last claim and that was a battle !!! So do i need to be prepared to fight again.
Thanks for reading

Hi Lorna, can't really answer your question but can tell you I am in the same boat - my renewal date is 9th September & I too have been sent the complete package. My award was for 2yrs & was high rate on both care & mobility, before this I had an award for low care which was not time limited & which I'd had for a few years, it took me four attempts to get anything at all so even though I'd been getting progressively worse I put off claiming again until I first found this website & got help with my claim from a council benefits dept who were fantastic. The lady who filled in my last claim form for me is due to come on Friday to help me with this one but it doesn't stop the worry does it?
I guess all we can do is take it step by step, accept help & search for advice when we need it. I wish you all the best & hope we both succeed
Regards
Jackie

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

In answer to your questions, they are not treating you as a new claimant, but as an existing claimant who is subject to a renewal claim, as a consequence of a fixed term award about to expire.
The DM will certainly be aware of what rate, and for what period you had been awarded DLA on your last claim.
Finally, the forum is provided as a service exclusive of your subscription to B & W. It is not an on-demand wefare rights service, as the forum is administered by volunteer moderators not all who have benefit knowledge and/or experience of the social security benefits system.
Furthermore, moderators also have health problems themselves, and as such are not always available to respond to queries in the forum. Indeed, the forum has just recently reopened following a period when there was an acute shortage of moderators.
Taking these factors into account, a little more patience would not go amiss, bearing in mind there are other members who are equally as entitled to a reply to their queries.
Invariably, your enquiry will be answered in due course.

I think as a moderator your tone should be a little more courteous.
I didnt understand the whole process and have just joined the group so a little more understanding wouldnt have gone amiss!!!!! I merely wanted some help not a lecture
