Work related PTSD

Hi Michelle

It sounds like you need to pay special attention to showing where you meet the support group criteria to avoid ending up in the WRAG, as it sounds like being asked to engage in any 'work-related activity' would also trigger off an attack of the severe anxiety etc you experience?

Your indefinite award for industrial injury benefit certainly sounds very relevant (am sorry am not familiar with that benefit).

Do you have a psychiatrist/GP/support worker that will provide an additional up to date statement stating why the support group exceptional circumstances criteria should be applied to you?

Best wishes

Hi Catherine

Thank you so much for offering advice/support.

It is a lot clearer that I will need to (or rather get a medical person) to explain to the DWP that any'work related activity' will trigger of a horrendous serious of events regards both physical and mental health. Due to my avoidance of the very thought of work I do tend to feel safe by thinking I can obscure everything regarding the jobcentre out of my mind, and it will go away! This of course is not the case, and I will need to take this head on and put a stop to it as best I can or they will carry me along on some sort of work related activity that will end in disaster. For example this pink leaflet they sent me with a pre -arranged appointment without any explanation about it has made me have to take extra sedation that I am given for emergency's.

My personal experience in the area where I live is that they just do not understand my condition at all,nor treat me as an individual,(as is the same from what I read for millions of other claimants). They keep on telling me 'nobody is different now everyone is to be treated the same'! What a massive mess this system is when it is actually making people have huge relapses in any recovery they struggled to make.

Psychiatric support ceased some time ago as both the consultant, and I agreed that the PTSD treatment had served as much as it could with managing the condition. However, thank you for your suggestion about an up to date statment explaining why the exceptional circumstances criteria should apply to me. That is something that I shall try and provide.

Sorry for the long reply I do tend to rant.

Many thanks.

Hi all

Just had to make a final comment on the pink leaflet headed Work for You,just in case anyone else gets it,and wonders if it is mandatory.

In my case the scheme is not mandatory, but of course always check for your own personal circumstances.

Seems all this panic has boiled down to poor, and confusing written communication regarding the process.

I have also taken on board all pointers, and with the moral support offered on here I have attended to making sure I am complying with the ESA50,so I am glad to say I have now also dealt with DWP breakdown in communication regarding that.

Huge thanks to all.
