I am on DLA HRM HRC I have also recently after an Atos medical been placed in the support group for 3 years. I am on contributions based ESA, however I have just this week been lucky enough to have had an unexpected windfall of 20K. Whilst this is brilliant news for me I wondered if I have to declare it to DWP or can it just be placed in a savings account. This money has NOT come from a personal pension and was an amount I won in a competition. I am a little worried that I may lose some or all of my benefit. My husband has also booked us a holiday to Mexico (long haul) flight and even though he has notified the travel company of my dissabilities and every effort is being made for me not to have any problems during travel, I am worried sick that it will not bode well with DWP. Please advise as he has already booked the holiday (it was a surprise to me)and he didnt realise the hasstle it could cause.
If you are receiving ESA(CB) and no means tested benefit there should be no need to contact the DWP as your savings are not relevant to the benefits you receive.
However, if you have ever had to provide financial information in regard to your benefits, then I would recommend you write to them with details of your savings.
If you are unsure, then I would again recommend you contact the DWP in writing.
