Very fearful of medical was created by Jazziesgirl
I filled in the ESA form with so many attached pages, results from blood tests and consultant's reports, explaining how my condition (ME/CFS) is variable and affects me, just exactly as advised here - and am still summoned to a medical. I am also having to have an operation on a torn cartiledge in my knee from a stumble, which will be horrendously disabling for a CFS sufferer - and I am very worried about the medical. I feel a bit sick with nerves - what if I am thrown off benefits? I just cannot work at the moment and I don't know if I can cope with all of this. I think I just need some support but can't get through to the CAB they are so busy. What the heck do you have to do, short of die? Which I am certain this government is aiming for - to reduce the cost of keeping the vulnerable alive.

Can anyone advise me? Please?

JG

Being called to a medical means that an ATOS "doctor" was not able to make a recommendation to the DWP on your claim based on your ESA50 and the information attached.

The reality is that very few claimants escape the medical, the percentage is a lot higher for those being transferred from another benefit, so you should not assume that you will consequently fail the medical and be found Fit for Work.

The following FAQ explains more about the medical

I was diagnosed with CFS by a shrink some years ago. It was never referred to as ME for some reason. Also, as I have significant health chronic health issues my medics have seemed to totally disregarded it even though fatigue is a known side effect of my condition.
When I was diagnosed with CFS my consultant told me that the diagnosis 'wasn't helpful'.
That does worry me but I think it underlines the very special nature of ME/CFS. Many medics still disbelieve and don't regard it as a proper condition.
To my mind, it is essential that you get a supportive report from the person who diagnosed you and also the people involved in your ongoing treatment as I suspect the lovely people at ATOS may not have a clue and may totally disregard ME/CFS as 'fabricated' which of course it most definitely isn't !
Hope this helps!
Good luck ..... and try not to let the stress of the whole affair make things worse.

hi

I have same condition as you I have just recently had a medical because i asked to be put in the support group .Don't worry about the medical they dont bite in fact i have been to several and they all seemed totally disinterested just be yourself. And i mean be yourself when i was asked to get on there couch I told them I could not do it it would cause me pain i told them i needed to stand after sitting for 5 mins because i was in pain .So dont worry you will most likely get a report like mine which read this man has a severe disability in both upper and lower body and could not possibly work for at least 2 years.Never the less i was still put in the WRAG and hence no money so like me you will most likely have to appeal.good luck
