I am currently on ssp , can't continue to work , my question is, can I apply ESA whilst on ssp or do I need to resign 1st ?? Or do I need to wait for ssp to run out and then apply ???
Thanks
You cant claim SSP and ESA at the same time, however, SSP is only paid for a maximum of 28 weeks, so when you have an end date for your SSP you can make an early claim for ESA using the end date of your SSP as the start date for your ESA, this should also avoid the usual 3 day period at the start of an ESA claim which is not payable.
You do not need to resign in order to claim ESA.
