TOPIC: The stress of waiting for result after PIP medical

The stress of waiting for result after PIP medical 2 months 3 weeks ago #195941

Hi,

Just this question really, if there is any advice on trying to stay calm and positive whilst waiting. I believe you can ring up for an "assessors report" a few days afterwards, but I assume this is not necessarily a final result, as the DWP have to look at the whole file before deciding and then writing to you? Anyway, I know everyone goes through this. But for me, for various reasons, I am finding it especially difficult. My illness is one that is often difficult to explain, difficult live with, and often disbelieved (ME/CFS), the last of which really creates lots of extra stress and I am sorry to say a sense of worthlessness. Its been a long and difficult process to do the forms and if I am denied an award, I honestly don't know if I can make it through the struggle of an appeals process.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, you can request a copy of the assessor's report from DWP. We always suggest waiting a couple of days after the assessment for the report to be sent to DWP. The Decision Maker does not have to abide by the assessor's recommendation, but it is unusual for them to do otherwise.

I'm afraid I don't have any specific suggestions as to how you cope with the waiting. Have you been given any relaxation techniques you can use? Or do you have a CPN you can contact? Otherwise, how about contacting your GP?

Thanks. My assessor made the point she was sending it all to the DWP who "made the decision" based on points. This gives me a sense of foreboding as, the way you put it, and the sense I got, was that she might have been saying 'its not up to me'. I know second-guessing is pointless though.

Anyway the stress is great but I need to find a way to deal with it (though not sure what CPN is/means). I may decide to wait for the final letter, as if the assessor's report is unsympathetic I may have a difficult reaction about something I can't really do anything about at that point in time.

Anyway, thank you for responding.

Well, actually, I have made an appointment with my G.P. The first available one is not until 4 September, but better late than never. I am just so stressed out by everything and really struggling with my illness. I will report back on how I get on with DWP, but in a way, its kind of like my whole illness is the problem and nothing will change that.

Just another update.

I got a letter from DWP this morning saying they had the information they needed and would be contacting me soon with their decision re. PIP. This is 3 weeks after my medical assessment by the way.

I found this rather odd and never happened with DLA. They just sent me the decision when they were ready. Are they being courteous or is there possibly other reason?

Thanks.
