Folowing brain surgery was created by David
Following brain surgery to remove a tumour, my wifes friend cannot remember directions even to places she is familiar with, she knows where we live but cannot navigate without the satnav in her mobility car. She cannot even remember how to get home two miles away. The question is would this count as an orientation aid for the purpose of planning and following a journey ?

I'm afraid the jury is still out on this one and it is down to the claimant to argue whichever way they wish to.
I think arguments that one can be used to plan a route are week, as these devices effectively replace the requirement to do so, following a route is another matter, for what it is worth my personal opinion is that they should not be considered, they are now so cheap that arguments over access to the equipment my struggle and if included would certainly reduce the likelihood of a claimant scoring high points.

“orientation aid” means a specialist aid designed to assist disabled people to follow a route safely"
just my opinion, but a generic sat nav that could be used by anyone wouldn't meet the definition as its a general product, not a specialist product.

Yes I realise this but the OP is still at the assessment stage and the assessor and Decision Maker may not be as knowledgeable about the law.
