After what I can only presume my ESA reassessment date was part of the lengthy backlog of cases, I have received the dreaded ESA50 02/17. Like everyone else on this forum it has raised my anxiety levels through the roof along with everything else.

Is it still possible to not give any phone number or even email address for contact purposes as I am unable to handle phone calls from the DWP etc. Is it ok to request written correspondence from the DWP..

Also is it ok still to request a side waiting room due to severe anxiety around strangers to have my assessment, should they decide to invite me for a medical based on the questionnaire and not make paper based decisions. Can you still request a recorded assessment as well?

Since my last scheduled esa assessment and all the cancellations prior to actual assessment at the end of July 2013, I have moved to a different part of the country. My previous Psychiatrist and support worker were brilliant.

On arrival I obviously saw a new psychiatrist who was absolutely oblivious and disinterested and totally uncaring about my issues. Asked my GP to see another consultant. Did so and he was just as uncaring as the other. The hidden message from both of them was they needed to cut the waiting lists so we want to discharge you from the community mental health team. They didn't even have half the previous paperwork from my previous clinic.

So they discharged me in March 2015. Saying you must keep taking all prescribed medication so keep in contact with your new GP for prescriptions.

So all I have in terms of medical evidence to add to the esa is prescription medication collected on a monthly basis. The only forms of medical paperwork I have is from July 2013.

Do the DWP keep your previous ESA forms that were completed on file for cross matching/examination etc? As all my issues are listed in the previous 2013 ESA form that I copied and retained.

Is it wise to replicate the details from the previous ESA or do the DWP just disregard it in a negative context. The issues highlighted still affect me.

I knew they would send an ESA form eventually but I just feel totally overwhelmed and extremely anxious to say the least.

Apologies for the lengthy questions/narrative but I just feel lost.

Hi Ng,

I'm sorry that the axe has fallen :( I will try to answer your questions in order -

It is perfectly OK to withhold your phone number and email address. However, I must warn you that DWP will probably use your number if they already have it for any reason.

You can certainly request to wait somewhere quiet if you are called for a face2face assessment. It might be better to speak directly to someone at the venue when an appointment has arrived. If they demur, you can use the term 'reasonable adjustment'.

Yes, you can request that your assessment is recorded. There is a sample letter in the ESA guide. I suggest you contact Maximus directly to make sure once you have an appointment.

The assessor and decision maker might not even know that you have a current claim. I would not expect them to have any details about your history. Please include any information you wish them to have, don't rely on them sourcing this themselves. You can use your previous form but should make sure that it reflects your current situation and the recent change in legislation.

May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments about your ESA without having to start a new topic each time. We ask members to keep everything relating to the same claim in one topic as it helps us enormously - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Mrs Hurtyback

Thanks for your quick reply.

You seem to have answered the queries.

Could you explain or direct me to a B&W link that outlines the new legislation. I am unaware of new Legislation allied to ESA claims and the points to take note of.

Regards

Hello

Just about finished the new ESA50 02 17 form sent to me even though it's again increased and exacerbated all my health conditions. I hate them.......

Currently in ESA support group since end of July 2013. As I now have renewal form to send off and be scrutinised, is April 2017 form classed as renewal or fresh claim for esa. As I'm already in SG, if they decided to accept new form but put me in WRAG would I still retain SG component payment.

If you are put in the WRAG then you will receive the WRAG rate!
