Q3&4 on PIP form was created by R.P
Hiya there -
Currently filling out pip form, and wondering if I should state that my parents used to prompt me to eat every day but I refused their help and support due to feeling they were "interfering"; although they offer to help I refuse and argue with them, due to having a massive eating disorder, and OCD, and therefore have to do everything myself. Would it work against me to state this or not? Please advise as it could be a crucial bit of information to leave out or, indeed , put in!

Thanks so much. Ruth

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Your post suggests that they used to and now don't. You don't mention the timescales.

This is an assessment of how you are now so the obvious question is issue relevant to you today.

You also need to consider that you are saying you used to need prompting but now you don't, why is this and how do you manage now when you couldn't before.

Thankyou for the username tip :)

Regards my question, it was regarding the fact that I totally need supervision, prompting, assistance as I'm unable to prepare a simple one-course nutritious meal due to having Anorexia; however, as one of the symptoms of this illness is that the person is resistant to help, as it's perceived as interference, and the lack of ability to trust another person to help or make something to eat for the other person.

So in my case, my parents used to prompt and help me but due to my behaviours and us consequently arguing they no longer do, and therefore even though I still require assistance/prompt/someone to cook for name, I do not have this help, and I guess my condition has deteriorated. So is that what I should put, or is that too much information for the DMs?

Please let me know your view.

Thanks

You don't need to be receiving the supervision to establish a requirement for it, but you will still need to address the issue of how you are managing without someone to provide the supervision. Basically their are three options;

- you are not receiving the supervision but are able to manage, obviously this significantly devalues the need for the supervision in the first place.

- you have found some substitute for the supervision, perhaps you have established a rigid routine under which you have to eat, or you have created a diet that provides at least the minimum calories you need each day, or something else.

- or you are not managing and your general health is deteriorating as a result.

Remember you need to perform the activity reliably and on the majority of days, so as an example; you could argue that only eating the minimum number of calories does not meet the requirement for an preparing a meal to an acceptable standard.
