Hi. My friend has just had her mandatory reconsideration turned down. There are a few points i feel the assessors have not considered but am looking for pointers for her appeal
She is currently on 10 points everyday care 11 points moving around. They have awarded nil for planning a journey yet in the f2f when asked how she planned a journey she said she doesnt as cant. She becomes dreadfully disorientated and confused. When asked how did you plan your journey here today she laughed and said I did it and I drove. She has numerous conditions including rheumatoid artheritis, fibromyalgia, migraine, a tumour on her pituitary glad which has taken hearing in both ears and 50% vision in one eye. Ad things stand she will lose her car. Therefore her job snd independence. I just need some help for the appeal. Thank you all in advance

I would check with them again about the points they have scored as you can't score 11 points for Mobility :)

If she attended the assessment on her own and navigated there without assistance then I think she will struggle to show that she cannot plan a route and then follow one. It would have to have been a 10 minute drive that actually took her three hours, take this with a pinch of salt but I hope you understand the problem.

The fact that she works, which I assume is not from home will also have counted against her and will have likely undermined any credibility in regard to reliability and being unable to complete the task on the majority of days.

This leaves the Moving Around activity, on the assumption that she score 10 points then she has been assessed as being able to stand and move more than 20m but not more than 50m. to score higher she will have to show that she cannot reliably stand and then move more than 20m on the majority of days. Can she reasonably do this?

The PIP Appeal guide has links to the SSCS1 form that she will need to complete and the Submissions guide has a complete example that she can use to help you fill it in, she does not need to provide detailed reasons at this stage for her request to be accepted.

Once your appeal is accepted the DWP will prepare their submission to the hearing and send her a copy, whilst she should wait until she receives this to finish and submit her own, she should start to prepare her own case, an increased award will only be made by her showing that she should score the extra points for one, so I would start by going back through her PIP2, the assessment report and the PIP Claim guide to see how she might show this is the case.

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.
