Operation at the same time as ESA 50

I have just checked my ESA reassessment date and it is Sept 2017 ( ie no deferment) Might there still be a deferment if I checked closer to the time?
I am due to have a hysterectomy soon, but I don't know the date yet.I would be spending a few weeks recuperation at my partner's house which is 30 miles from my home so I won't be able to pick up my post very often.
The man I spoke to at DWP seemed very helpful. He said that due to my diagnosis ( mental health) there was no requirement for me to fill the ESA 50. Is this correct? If so, do they base their decision on my last ESA50 (2013, Support Group) ? It all sounds very dubious...What do you think?
Obviously I do need to fill out a new form if I can. Not a lot has changed but it would be important to send in current doctor letters. I suggested writing in when I get the operation date and he agreed that was a good idea. He also said that he would put a note on my file detailing the conversation. Would a letter like that help at all? I realize from following your (excellent) forum that there is no way to get an extension for ESA, only PiP.

Many thanks

I think that the person you talked to on the phone does not know what they are talking about and I would ignore everything they said.

I would not expect a decision to defer your reassessment to be made until the ESA computer system selects you as a person for reassessment, which is unlikely to be before August. Whether you will be deferred or not is another matter which we cannot comment on, at the moment the primary reason to defer is due to queues in the assessment process with Maximus, whilst it seems that the majority of areas are affected not all are and the queues can also be quite variable.

I'm afraid you will have to wait and see.
