Managing toilet needs was created by claresturgeon
Hi Transferring from DLA to PIP and I am querying the above descriptor. I suffered a Spinal Cord Injury a number of years ago which resulted in me not being able to pass urine at all (urinary retention) and I have to self catheterise around 7 times a day to pass the urine. I do not suffer from involuntary urinary incontinence. Is it still worth me putting this down in this descriptor? I also have bowel accidents secondary to the Spinal Cord Injury and need help cleaning myself up and I use a toilet rail because of mobility issues. YB

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

You don't mention that you need help with your toilet needs and have no problems with continence, so there is no obvious match with the criteria, but if you don't document your problems then you aren't going to have any chance of scoring points.

Perhaps, prioritise answering this question to the end, but I would still put in some information.

Make sure you are using our PIP Claim guide to help you complete the form.

Thanks Gordon for your reply.

I will explain fully regarding the self catheterisation and will mention the use of the toilet rail when getting on and off the toilet due to me having no dynamic standing balance and also about me having no sensation from the waist down and about needing the help of someone to make sure I am on the toilet safely. I also have to wear calipers on both legs which go up to my knees which restricts my movement when getting on and off the toilet and need help from someone when wiping myself up as I cannot do this safely as I would fall. I need help when I have soiled myself and when I get urine on my clothes when self catheterising. Would I put this information in the dressing and undressing descriptor or managing toilet needs descriptor?

Many thanks for your help. YB
