Have had Cerebral Palsey since birth and Crohns disease since 2006. Been on indefinite high rate DLA since 1991. Told I am moving to PIP and need to apply in next month. Have received a letter from "DWP home visit team" to say they're sending someone around to my home to help me fill out initial application form even though a) I've not yet contacted them to start process and b) I can fill form myself. As you are aware the PIP horror stories are vast in number so I'm very much concerned about a home visit to fill out a form (not to be confused with the actual atos/capita assessment) have you come across this before and if yes, is this a good thing?

I have no issues filling out the form so don't know why they think I need the help. Saw on one online post that it's "to help give you the best chance of claiming pip" but I'm extremely sceptical and can't find anything else about such visits anywhere. Any suggestions/advice on how to proceed?. My visit is next Monday 9-12. Many thanks for your anticipated response.

We haven't seen the DWP offer to complete the PIP1 for a claimant, the form is not complicated and only asks basic information, the fact that it is intended to be completed over the phone is a good indication of it's complexity.

It's up to you, the important thing is to start your PIP claim by the required date, if you feel capable of doing that over the phone, then consider cancelling the appointment. The PIP Claim guide explains the process and has a list of the questions you should be asked during the call.

If you have any further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.
