Can I work while on a joint ESA claim? was created by Samantha
My husband is disabled and in receipt of PIP (enhanced daily living component, no mobility component) as well as being in the ESA support group. I receive Carers Allowance, and we also get Housing Benefit and Child Tax Credits.

I've been asked to apply for a job and don't know whether it would cause any problems in terms of benefits. It's only 7.5 hours a week so it'd be about £63 or so a week. From what I've read I'd have to be working 24 hours or more before it affected the joint ESA payment - is that right?

You are under the earnings limit for CA and the 24 hour rule for ESA, so the only remaining issue is whether you husband is receiving Income Related ESA either in part or in whole, if he is then your income will be deducted £ for £ and in the case of the former this could remove his entitlement to ESA(IR) and the passported benefits that come with it.

If he is only receiving Contribution Based ESA then it will not be affected by your income or working at all.

Your income may affect your HB.

Put your information in to one of the online benefit calculators to see how you will be affected.
