ESA and Savings do I reallyhave to supply the info was created by jennycollins10
Hi
I have been in long term receipt of Contribution Based Employment & Support Allowance (CB ESA) in the support group having transferred from long term Incapacity Benefit; although for short periods in the past I have claimed an income related top up.
I have just received a letter from Jobcentre+ requesting I supply updated info on my savings and property, and JC+ say in the letter they do this every year although I have not received this previously.
I am confident that I am no longer entitled to income based ESA nor am I likely to be again before I reach state retirement age in 5 years time.
I contacted Jobcentre + and queried why they need the info about my savings given my claim is currently and has been since February 2016 Contribution based only - they say they understand this but I do need to send the info to keep their records up to date.
I feel this is over intrusive since it does not matter what savings you have for CB based ESA - so do I really have to comply? Could they stop my claim or sanction me if I don't reply?

I'm not sure that you have a choice, I'm not aware of anything in the legislation that prevents the DWP from requesting general financial information even if you are only receiving ESA(CB), failing to do so could lead to your ESA payments being suspended.
