PIP home visit appointment was created by Sickandtired
Hi,
I am being migrated from DLA to PIP and sent the form away in July. Last week I received a phone call from the centre which organizes the assessments and they said I am down for a home visit and they could come the following day. I said no (as last minute arrangements leave me panicky and also I have further reports which I need to photocopy and collate) and they said ok and that I would hear from them in the next few weeks. Today,I notice that they called this morning (same number) and that I missed their call, but they did not leave a message. I am wondering if they were going to offer me another short notice appointment. My question is; do I have a right to be given more notice before an assessment - ie: 7 days as with the WCA? Even if it's a home visit? Thanks to all for help with this, and thanks for this brilliant site, you have helped so much with my previous claims and appeals.

You are legally entitled to seven days written notice although this includes postage time.

You do not need to accept any short notice appointment unless you wish to but be aware that once accepted it will be treated as a notified appointment so you will only be able to move it once if needed.

Hi Gordon & sickandtired

I've had the self same thing happen to me when I received a letter notifying me of a face-to-face interview for the following day at a particular centre, early in the morning, involving quite long distance bus travel & a long walk thereafter! Had I received the letter the following day, it would have been too late to respond as the post sometimes does not arrive early. As it was, it wasn't enough notice for my friend, who would have both accompanied me & driven me there, but I managed to get a home visit for the following day, which was better than nothing.
The Assessor duly arrived, but stopped the assessment before very long saying it was too stressful for me, and instead would continue it as a paper-based assessment /written review & I would not be called again for a face-to-face assessment! And that I would hear the result in a few weeks. Well 2 months went by & thought the envelope that finally arrived a bit too bulky for a result. I was right, and worse still, it was for another face-to-face, against what was I most definitely told! The same letter word-for-word, as before, but using different dates. No reference to the partial assessment so I rang, and kept getting different reasons why I am required to go through it all again. I was just left feeling appalled that consistently there was no reference to a written review to be undertaken, against what was expressly promised Therefore, wondering if this too has been experienced by others. With thanks for any advice, if not in the Guides, as I would have thought unheard of when such firm assurance is given?

Thanks for your response & expressions of concern!
The 2nd f2f is a fortnight away, but is piling on the stress as I thought it had been all done and dusted. I have been seeking advice and it has been suggested I send a letter with my side of the story (for what it's worth). If any developments will certainly let you know of what has happened, but in the meantime have a couple of other questions, which I will run as separate threads. But have appreciated your comments.

My guess is that the original assessor exceeded their authority is telling you that you would be switched to a home assessment and that the new appointment has been made because there was insufficient information available to make a recommendation to the DWP.
