However if you own your own home, no mortgage etc, on Cont based benefit ESA and PIP, excluding mobility and no other benefits or housing money etc etc you can exceed the 28 day, more so if you still run your own home, Council tax utilities etc. You are more or less left alone if you go on 'extended' hols in an EU country, at present. Brexit, well who knows !!!
( Phoned them a few yrs back re this, and this was their response, however we all know they are not to be believed or trusted !!!)

I am on Contributions based, ESA in the support group yet my ESA was stopped despite my informing by signed for post letter of my holiday dates. My ESA was reinstated, when I phoned them after my holiday, to ask why it had been stopped.
Apparently, "they didn't know where I was", so I wrote asking for written confirmation of what I am required to do, when I want to go away for a holiday.

Not only do I have to inform them of my holiday, and the dates I will be away, I have to telephone on my return so they can confirm I have returned. Which I then confirm in a signed for post letter, just to be safe.
I realise very few, if any, other people on Contribution only ESA go to these lengths just to satisfy the DWP, but my health problems are such that I cannot allow my stress levels to be heightened by the kaftquesque world of having issues with the DWP.
