Random ESA letter after applying for PIP.

Hi there

My husband has been on indefinite high rate DLA (mobility) and received the dreaded telling him his DLA was ending and inviting him to apply for PIP.

He duly did this and attended his face to face on 3rd October so still waiting to hear how that went (fingers crossed). He rang on Monday and asked for a copy of the assessment - how long does it usually take to receive this?

Anyway, today he has received a letter (Ref: FEPSL8a) regarding his ESA (not PIP) saying "We have looked again at your circumstances and decided there is no change to your ESA. It goes on to say that they have checked the information given to HMRC against what he has told them before. It says they now know about pension payments and that this is information he had not told them about. It then says "What our decision means" There is no change to the amount you get and you have not been overpaid. You do not need to contact us.

My question is, does this have anything to do with his PIP application? What will have triggered this? He has not worked since 2007 when he was medically retired from his job and he has been receiving this pension for as long as he has been receiving ESA (and previously Incapacity Benefit).

Not sure what is going on really, and just wondering if anybody can advise.

Thank you

I would expect the report to take about 7-10 days.

As far as I can see the ESA letter is about pension payments that your husband is receiving. They do check pension information every year and usually write to the claimant afterwards.

Thank you Gordon, so it isn't likely to be connected to his PIP claim then?

I had already got ahead of myself and decided that his PIP claim has been denied and so they were looking to reduce / stop his ESA!

Will just have to wait it out and see what the verdict is.

Thank you

My wife got a letter a while ago re: ESA and her work pension. They were under the impression that it was about to increase and wanted permission to contact the pension provider. I thought we gave them that when we told them the pension was starting.

No increase is due until at least next April so I don't know where they got that idea. Who knows how their minds work?

This was before she started a claim for PIP so definitely not related to that.

Hi Rich

Thank you for the reply.

I really need to rein myself in and stop making it up as I go along!

Thank you
