Attendance Allowance was created by DAISY
Hi,
I am 69 and I have been diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia a bone marrow cancer. I already receive DLA at the middle rate and my wife receives carers money for me, I avoided doing PIP as I was 65 before 08/04/2013. In the booklet I was given by Macmillan Support it states I may be able to get attendance allowance under special rules. I am concerned about applying for attendance allowance as I could then be pushed on to PIP which in a lot of cases was a disaster.
Regards.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis.
I'm afraid you cannot claim Attendance Allowance as you already have a DLA award in place!
SLA and AA are effectively the same benefit, DLA is awarded where the claim is made before the age of 65 and AA is awarded after 65.
If your care needs have increased such that you now need care day AND night rather than the day OR night that your DLA was originally awarded for, then you can ask to be reassessed, but be aware that this would be a full reassessment of your claim, new form and almost certainly a face to face assessment.
