Change of circumstances

I underwent a liver transplant in mid September. Prior to the transplant I was in the support group for ESA and was receiving higher rate mobility and lower rate care on DLA.

As there has, thus far at least, been no changes to my mobility nor to my care needs, am I correct in assuming that I do not yet need to notify the Disability and Carers Unit at DWP about my transplant op?

And what about ESA. Do I need to notify them that I have had a transplant and if so, when?

I am currently on large doses of anti rejection meds that cause one to be become hugely immunocompromised and thus very susceptible to infection. I'm under medical instruction not to travel on public transport and frankly I'm afraid to leave the house.

I'd be most grateful for your views as whilst I wish to ensure I follow the correct procedures, I don't want to put my benefits at risk unecessarily. Thanking you in advance.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I can't tell you that you do not have to contact the DWP about your operation but if there has been no change in your limitations or they have worsened then the DWP are unlikely to be bothered if you don't.

If you do contact them then it will result in a full reassessment of your ESA claim and you will be invited to claim PIP as a replacement for your DLA.
