Hi,Iam in a similar situation to beragon. At the moment I am in the support group having being reassessed in July and I am in a area which is not full universal credit so get esa.
In six weeks I am moving to dudley which is a fully universal credit area.Presumably I have to switch to universal credit and wait a month for housing benefit and universal credit to replace esa .Will it's mean I have to claim again and only just in July had a wca ,hopefully I will not need another .Could you please explain the procedure and am I going to lose out by being on uc rather than esa ,and or can I keep my current claim going while everything is transferred to uc .thanks

I have moved your post to it's own topic, we ask members not to post their questions in other's topics as it can easily lead to the wrong advice being given or taken.

If your ESA is Contribution Based only then it will not be effected by your moved and you will continue to receive your ESA(CB) as now.

If your ESA Income Related, in part of in whole then ESA(IR) it will come under the UC umbrella, however, as you already have an award it should be migrated to UC without assessment and should be payable without a wait, although whether UC is actually capable of doing this is another matter. You might want to see if you can time your move so it is just after a payment so there is the maximum time available for UC to come into payment.

If you receive both ESA(CB) and ESA(IR) then as I have said the ESA(CB) will remain outside of UC and will be paid fortnightly. The ESA(IR) will go under UC and be paid monthly. The ESA(CB) will be deducted from your calculated UC amount.

Hi,thanks and can I ask and when i move to dudley do I have to claim straight away online for uc and when do I tell the dwp I'm gone from this address to a new address in a uc full area, just don't know the procedure. If I moved in with my partner at a later date while still on Lcwrca(support group)would they stop all my benefit as she is a teacher and has savings that exceed all limits. In essence she would have to keep me fully and would this apply even if I went to work and claimed income based jobseekers allowance.I am on income based esa now.It seems like they are stopping us getting together because she couldn't afford to keep me as she has 3 children and can only work part time and I would feel dreadful with no money of my own,she owns her house. The system seems totally flawed.I would be extremely grateful for any advice on the situation thanks Gary

You don't have to make any claim for UC if it is just your ESA that you are claiming but you said you would need to claim Housing Benefit and it will be this that requires the UC, so when you have to claim is dependant on when you need the HB.

Any ESA(IR) that you receive would cease payment, this does not mean that your claim is closed, if you live with a partner who is working more than 24 hours a week. Whether you UC would stop entirely would depend on their income as they will become part of your UC claim.
