PIP appeal attendance was created by Talbotdays
I have a PIP appeal next week with 18 year old son. He has ASD and is very eloquent and comes across very well. Although at home he still needs a lot of support, prompting, encouragement, reassurance. He gets very anxious when we say anything negative about him and about his disability. We are very concerned about talking in front of him at the tribunal (as his appointee) about all the things we have to do for him.
We have tried to prepare him, but he is in complete denial about his difficulties. We have thought about attending without him but realise this would weaken his case.
Any tips or advice for preparing him for this appeal.

To be honest I don't think I can give you advice about this, you know your son and his problems and you know how he will react if confronted with the reality of his problems. You need to find a way of either introducing him to his problems so that he can speak at the hearing, or to allow him to deal with you talking about them while he is in the room.

One thing you might want to try is to write to the Judge in charge of the hearing and ask there advice, they may be amenable to your being in the room for the first part of the hearing and then leaving it while you speak, or vice versa.
