I’ve been on ESA ( Support Group ) since I was changed over 3 years ago from income
Support and I receive high rate care PIP due to severe mental health problems. They are very complex and I have a horrid time day to day trying to deal with these. An agency has recently asked me if I’d be interested in a 2 day job on something I’m the arts and I’m just so unsure because if I lost my benefits it really would be a disaster for me but on the other hand I want to try to see how I could handle this opportunity. It would only be 2 days and that’s it but it would go quite a way over the £120 permitted earnings. Also, I’m very scared the benefits office will just say I’m fit for work or either stop my benefits or put me on wrag which would be a disaster and my mental health would suffer a lot.
As it is only 2 days and around 16 to 20 hours in t will I have to fill out a form and tell them? I’m just so scared about my ESA.
Please offer me some advice.
I feel I may have to turn the opportunity down as I wouldn’t be able to cope with the possibility of my benefits being stopped or another assement and the benefits office trying to make out I’m now for for work. I’m
Afraid i’ll be left destitute. I’m so scared and I’ve been in bed for 3 days worried sick.
I wouldn’t be able to support myself financially you see if anything happened to my esa.

You don't need to repeat your posts. All posts are moderated and will not appear in the forum until approved by a Moderator.
The income and hours limits for Permitted Work are absolute limits, you cannot exceed them and retain your ESA.
As both the hours and the earnings from this job are outside the PW limits you should think carefully about undertaking this work. Your ESA claim will be closed as a result of your doing it so there is reduced financial incentive and your post suggests that you might struggle mentally if your claim is closed.
You should be able to re-claim ESA under the Linking Rules but I am aware of claimants struggling to do this in a Universal Credit full service area, so you need to check the status of your postcode is.

Hi Gordon,
I rang the ESA benefits line and he told me that if the hours or money goes over and it's just a day or 2 then the esa will just be stopped for that week and but claim wouldn't be closed......

Also Gordon, it would only be 2 days and that's it. Not on going, just a one off.

We have seen other members in this situation and their ESA claim has been closed.
It does not matter that it is only two days, the law requires any PW to be less than 16 hours.
