Help ESA3Q (IBR) scam! was created by bella01
Please help. I was contacted by the DWP and they said I would have heard of the "scam" going on and that they would be sending me another form to fill in just in case I was owed money. This would be back dated to 2014. The form has come but there are no medical questions on it. It asked about:- hospital stays, work, what benefits you are getting, have you lived abroad, pensions, training, savings, other money coming in, children, housing are you council or housing association, who lives with you and then the account you want them to pay the money into. There is nothing about your illness? This is all so confusing. We were put on ESA income related, they moved us from incapacity payment (although they sent the form saying we had requested it, but we had not) but where as before my wife national insurance was paid when we got this it was not. So a help organisation moved her onto carers but they only took the money she got off of me? Can you please advise about this form or if you know what this means at all. Please we don't understand? Thank you

I'm afraid I'm not sure as to what the "scam" is?

The DWP are currently looking at claimants transferred from Incapacity Benefit to ESA who may be owed money as the rate that that was calculated at the time of transfer was not correct.

The ESA3 you appear to have received is to see whether you would have/do qualify for Income Related ESA which would allow payment of the extra money.

This is not a reassessment of your ESA claim, just what you are being paid.

Hi I to have just received this form this morning asking for info dating from 23/02/2013 to present. So my question is ( is it a scam or is it a real form ). I did hear on the news last night that thousands of people may be due a refund of underpayments. Also could anyone tell me if I will have to go through all the nightmare I did to get ESA in the first place and because you are asked to update them with info will this be classed as a change in circumstance and therefore transferring you to UC. Thanks to anyone that can answer the above in advance. Regards TERI WAL

No, it's not a scam although your situation is different from what the OPs was eight months ago. See

I wonder whether the OP might have misheard 'scam' for 'SCAN'? As the DWP are carrying out an exercise to identify ESA claimants who may have been underpaid it could be said that the DWP are currently undertaking a SCAN of ESA claimant records to help determine this. Just a thought!
