Appeal or not? was created by Adams19
Hi, really grateful for all advice here. I applied for PIP for first time In September as I have been suffering from chronic fatigue, myocarditis, migraines, thyroid off and on for 17 years. My latest bout has been 18 months and no end in sight and I've just lost my job. My application was rejected with 0 points for each component. I returned my mandatory reconsideration and was actually awarded 4 points for daily living and 8 for mobility which is a great success. I am now unsure as to whether I should appeal as I feel I should perhaps have got another 4 points for daily living. I use a dosette box for my prescription albeit I only take 2 tablets daily but without the box and prompting from my husband I would forget to take them or take a double dose due to lack of concentration. I was not awarded any points for this. I am also deaf in one ear and due to the nature of the hearing loss I was told that the prescribed hearing aid was not making any difference and there was no point wearing it. I can hear well enough in a small room with no background noise or distractions one on one but cannot socialise as background noise makes it difficult to hear. I have also lost my hair due to scarring alopecia and wear a wig. My scalp gets irritated and most days I have to remove the wig for relief - I cannot go out the door like this and hide in the house! I did not score any points here. Would love to know your views as to whether I should have got points in these 2 areas. I would of course be worried about losing my standard rate mobility (4 years). Thanks,

Taking your post as written I am not sure that I can see where you would score the extra points for a Daily Living award.

The use of dosette box will at best score you one points, as there is only one other Descriptor with an odd number of points this still leaves you needing to score four more.

Using a hearing aid, if accepted would only score two points for

b. Needs to use an aid or appliance to be able to speak or hear. 2 points.

Your Alopecia problems would seem more suited to scoring under Mobility for being unable go out rather than scoring under the Daily Living activities.

Are there other DL activities that you expected to score for and did not or ones that you expected to score higher for?

Hi Gordon, thank you so much for the super prompt response. This has just confirmed what I was thinking myself. I wouldn't expect to get points from any other descriptors. I am grateful that I was able to go from 0 points for both daily living and mobility to 4 points daily living and 8 for mobility. That's all down to the advice and guidance on this website. Thank you so much!
