re ESA claim was created by pmnpmn
I'm about to start an initial claim for ESA. I'm not sure if I should record that I do voluntary work. I have recently become a volunteer for my local community. The role will involve ringing round other volunteers to see if they can help elderly members of our local community and the occasional email..I will be at home - time commitment is unpredictable - i.e some weeks nothing and other times maybe an hour or two a week. Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.

The DWP have changed the guidance to existing ESA claimants and now require notification of voluntary work, I can't remember if the ESA1 form actually asks about voluntary work but if it doesn't then I would contact the DWP separately they will ask you to complete a VOL1 form about the work you are doing.
Be aware that your doing this work will be included in your assessment, so you will need to explain how you manage to do this and still meet the ESA criteria for an award.
Please make used of our ESA Claim guides to help you complete the ESA50, how my disability effects me form.

Thank you for your speedy response. Yes, the new forms specifically ask this question but as I 'm doing it in such a limited way and only started last week I didn't want to jeopardise my application but also don't want to lie. However as its so limited and the organisers are aware of my illness, I will make it clear that its more of a hobby for when I feel well enough. Thank you again.
