PIP claim rejected was created by Jacki
Hi all, after some advice. My wife had her f2f assessment a few weeks ago, she suffers from depression, anxiety, Hyperacusis with pain, noise sensitivity and on the day extreme vertigo which was not helped by the walk from the train station to the Capita office in Stoke and at the end of the assessment he actually passed out in the reception area. The assessor knows about this as the receptionist called her and there were 4/5 people around her when she came round. I had to leave her with them whilst I fetched the car and one of them helped me walk her to the car.

I am awaiting the report the assessor made on the day but according to the person I spoke to on the phone about appealing there is no mention of it on the report at all.

Her rejection letter showed 0 points for everything, I used the examples given on this website for her depression which given she regularly self harms were pretty accurate, we didn't expect much for the mobility as it is only when she has severe vertigo (as she did on the day and week leading up to the day and few days afterwards) that mobility is a big issue although due to her Hyperacusis and some medication she takes for it she does suffer from being dizzy always.. Is there any advice we can get how to go about the appeal process ?

Hi not sure but think you need to request a mandatory reconsideration first then if that fails you can go through the Appeal process ...there is information on here a guide I think to Appeal I'm sure a mod will advise you better when they are next on .

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with her claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the Submission PDF has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

What activities did she expect to score for? you mention her depression and self-harming, but these do not necessarily relate to problems completing the PIP activities.

Thanks for reply. We have requested the report so we can go through it.

I have to watch check her regularly when she showers and prepares food due to self harming. I have to make sure she takes medication and takes correct dosage etc.

She cannot work due to her Hyperacusis and noise sensitivity

If she scored no points then you have failed to establish a need for supervision, this may be because the DWP are looking at the risk of an episode in which case you need to have a look at the current guidance for safety and supervision in the PIP Claim guide.

But it could also be because the risk is not sufficient to score points.

Either way you need to go back to basics and look at what was included in the PIP2 against the actual Descriptors you are trying to meet.

Does anyone actually get PIP for depression ?

The fact she has to use aids to block sound out due to the noise sensitivity, she has to have help sorting medication, she has to be watched closely means nothing ?

The assessor lied on the report judging from what I was told on the phone a few days after she passed out in the reception of the capita offices.

Maybe we should not bother with an appeal as its all great in the world
