PIP Renewal process

PIP Renewal process was created by funmum
My son won a short award for pip at tribunal (short award made as his condition was less bad at tribunal date than it was at original application date) which is due to expire end April 2018.

I have received a letter for him today asking if he wants to "make a new claim for pip" and that if he "still needs help with daily living or mobility" he can "claim by calling xxxxx".

I was actually expecting to receive a renewal form.

Does this mean that they wont process his renewal as a renewal using the renewal form, and that I will actually have to complete the whole huge application form again?

I am loath to ring up and ask in case it triggers the start of my claim and I am not ready for the clock to start ticking yet.

Thank you

It's a bad choice of words on the letter, however, if a PIP2 is being sent then it needs to be treated as a new claim.

Your phoning will have no impact on when you might be invited to claim PIP, claimants are being chosen at random so it could be tomorrow or in a year's time, there is no way to know,

Thank you Gordon, he is currently already on PIP. Does the forum have any experience with this letter wording? Does the letter mean that they intend to send us a full application form or that they intend to send us a renewal form?

Could phoning to ask them trigger an assumption that by ringing in I am starting the claim/renewal process?

Yes we have seen this letter before.

So as he is being asked to make a new claim it will be a PIP2 not an AR1 Review form.

If you call the Claim line then then will expect you to be starting a new claim. If you phone the PIP Helpline then they won't.

Remember his payments stop when his existing award ends so you need to start the new claim process before the end of his current award.
