On ESA in support group/compliance interview

Received appt to see the Compliance Officer at local job centre this morning. Went into meltdown initially because I thought it was for a medical but following a quick phone call I was reassured that it is an issue that has arisen "on my current claim". On the form it requests that I take any documentation re finances for me and my husband. It asks for a very long list of documentation. My husband is a very private person, particularly with his personal finances and cannot understand what his finances have to do with my ESA. I have been in support group for many years and find this very alarming. No changes in my medical situation. We did apply for married couples allowance a few months back so my tax allowance was awarded to my husband but no other changes. Any ideas anyone?

I'm afraid we see these quite frequently, as SG members are not required to attend WFIs it's the only option that the JC+ has for engaging with them, if I was more cynical I would call it a cage rattling exercise.

That said, a number of members have had these letters and there have been problems with their claims, so it is worth checking if you have copies of any notifications that you have had to make to the DWP.

Sorry for delay in replying. The Compliance Officer got my file out after my call and phoned me later that afternoon to say she could deal with it over the phone. The Hmrc computer system flagged up earnings which were not actually earnings but an annuity I've had for years. No idea why unless the recent marriage allowance had shaken things up. She was a lovely lady who realised it was all above board and I wasn't earning while claiming. Hopefully it won't come up again but at least if it does I won't panic so much. Thanks for your reply and all the good work you do

Glad to hear it was so easily resolved.
