ESA assessment was created by Rosyjay
Hi All
I have just joined and this is my first post. I have been following the advice and looking at the different topics that have been addressed here for several months now and have appreciated the constructive advice given. I have been going through the nightmare of ESA for the last 14 mths and have suffered from pretty much everything that others have documented here. Omission of conditions, and various abilities misreported. I even took it as far as an appeal where amongst other things I was asked about the colour of my skin and the length of my hair. The implication was that I was a liar and evasive and my GP's letter was classed as
unreliable. Also the GP involved at the appeal, decided that she could 'read' my MRI scans better than my Consultant Rheumatologist and downgraded my inflammatory Arthritis to mild
Osteoarthritis .I could go on forever but you probably have the gist of my situation now. I am currently waiting for a bilateral decompression on my lumbar spine (I've had three previous similar operations on various levels) and an operation on my hand. I attended my last ESA assessment last month and am now waiting for the dreaded phone call /letter. I called DWP on Monday to ask for a copy of my assessment report as I want to be prepared this time for any discrepancies. The actual assessment was pretty horrific as I waited for nearly two hours by which time I was a mess and in considerable agony. The HCP assured me she was a qualified Dr. and so therefore new about my conditions. I don't remember a huge amount about what happened but she did click away and then said she had to leave the room, she then came back and said I could go. She didn't do any of the Physical assessment and quite a few things weren't discussed. I remember telling her that I would find it difficult to use a manual wheelchair due to the condition of my arms and neck as this wheelchair business had been suggested in my previous assessment report. It was suggested that a wheelchair could be kept at my place of work, however there was no reference as to how I was actually going to get to this place of work, presumably they thought I could get to work, park my car wherever and skip into the building then sit in my wheelchair when I got there. Sorry I'm getting sidetracked! What I really wanted to find out is has this happened to anyone else re the assessment? I'm actually worried sick as I don't feel at the moment I'm up to the fight of another MR or Appeal. This last 14 mths has taken it's toll both physically and mentally. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

It is possible that they left the room to speak to a senior assessor, this would happen because they believe you meet one or more of the Descriptors for the Support Group, however, you will have to wait and see what the Decision is, which we would expect in 2-4 weeks.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Thanks Gordon
I thought it might be that but I'm so cynical now about the whole process . Hopefully that's the case. When I spoke to the lady at DWP to ask for my report she said it would be several weeks before I heard anything. It's the waiting that's the killer.
Thanks again.
