Please can anyone give me a few tips?? I have a home visit next week. I never asked for a home visit, but capita have.
I really don't like people in my house, as this my space.
Are they likely to want to look around? will they report how my house looks? clean/tidy???
or just me? :-)
Will they have read my application form before hand/ gp/hospital letters etc?
I hate talking about myself and tend to just say things "like i get on with it" hate to moan, it was bad enough putting on paper, let alone a f to f
Thanks in advance

Debs

There is a section in the PIP Claim guide that covers the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

A home assessment is simply a refection by Capita that you would have significant problems attending at their offices.

They have no more right to look around your home than anyone else visiting you, however, I would be very surprised if the ask to do this.

You really need to overcome your reticence to talk about your problems, if you don't then they can't assess you properly.

Best of luck

Gordon

Hi debs
None of us with long term conditions like to admit to it. We all have ways of managing and hiding our conditions. Just for one day you must put aside all your strategies for coping, as hard as it is you have to accept the disabled you for a short time. You do not have to make any special effort for the assessor, just be you. Take your meds as prescribed no more and no less. Keep to your daily routine, if you are normally in your night attire at the time of the assessment there is no need dress unless you feel uncomfortable.
The HCP is only interested in how your condition affects the things you can and cannot do, things you need help with or if you use aids to help you.
The condition of your home is not being judged but depending on your reasons for your claim, assumptions can be made as to how you manage. Likewise if you have pets, who looks after them. Do you drive ? this can lead to assumptions about strength and coordination
Be ware of questions that ask if you can do things
For example
HCP " can you walk 50 metres ?"
You " Yes but I need to rest part way "

The HCP will stop listening when you reply "Yes.............."

Instead your reply should be
" No, but if I rest part way I can do so slowly "

When you answer "No" the assessor has to continue listening

Also some assessors are asking how long can you walk for as opposed to how far

David-Thank you for your helpful reply.
I could of written them first few sentences myself. Me all over!
I will have to really try for this day, to overcome my coping abilities, my daily talk to myself about keeping positive!
David do you know if she/he would of read my PIP form before she arrives? or will she read it at all?
Also can i have my PIP form that i photocopied in front of me and my hospital letters?
I shouldn't need to copy them again for him/her? to take with them when they leave?
Thanks Debs

Hi debs
The HCP should read your PIP2 but will not necessarily do so before your assessment
You can have your form but may need to explain why, you do not need to give them a copy as it will be in your file
