Additional diagnosis just before PIP assessment

Hello all, I have a PIP f2f assessment early next week, and yesterday was given a diagnosis of a physical illness unrelated to my original health issues. In retrospect this probably accounts for some - or adds to some - of the problems previously ascribed entirely to my mental health, such as the amount of fatigue I've been experiencing.

Obviously I don't have anything on paper yet, other than copies of consultants' letters from previous outpatient appointments which didn't have this definitive diagnosis. I'm not sure what I should say, do, or take with me, with regard to the PIP assessment - or is it simply going to detract from the strength of my original application?

Feeling so overwhelmed and exhausted at the moment I'm struggling to think clearly or make decisions, so any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks.

I assume that the issues that result from this new condition are already listed on your PIP2?

I would certainly mention that you are waiting for a diagnosis at the assessment. If the letters suggest one then I would give them a copy.

If you do get a letter before the Decision is made then send a copy to the DWP office that is dealing with your claim.

The PIP Claim guide has a section that covers the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.

Thanks Gordon. The fatigue and suchlike have been listed on my PIP2 form, but not the other issues/symptoms as I didn't know that I had this additional condition and therefore had no evidence for them. My diagnosed conditions up until yesterday were all mental health issues so my form concentrates on their impact.

I'll have a proper look at my letters from earlier appointments and take any that might be helpful. I'll read through the claim guide too. Many thanks.

If you didn't include the information in your PIP2 then I would considered writing your own letter explaining how they impact on your ability to complete the PIP activities, take it with you to the assessment and ask the assessor to read it before they start the interview and to include it your file when it is sent back to the DWP.

I would also send a copy to the DWP office dealing with your claim.
