Looking at the HP guidance for Descriptor 9d

The only real criterion that my condition could give me points is in question11, about meeting people face to face.

In a nutshell, I have an autistic spectrum conditino and as a result I find it very distressing to have to interact with people on a face-to-face basis. It makes me feel guilt and shame at the time, later, or both.

I have been assaulted once (unreported to police as I was too distressed) and threatened several times by people who misunderstand me and because I am unaware of them being around me.

I find it hard to see how I can score points, though, at my interview (which I will also find traumatic, although I will not show it on the outside due to being able to camouflage the condition) because the guidance for the HP on Question 9 (?) in their documents (on your website) says this about the overwhelming psychological distress I suffer:

"Cannot engage with other people due to such engagement causing
either –
i. overwhelming psychological distress to the claimant; or
ii. the claimant to exhibit behaviour which would result in a
substantial risk of harm to the claimant or another person.

Overwhelming psychological distress means distress related to a mental health
condition or intellectual or cognitive impairment which results in a severe anxiety
state in which the symptoms are so severe that the person is unable to function.
This may be as a direct result of a mental health condition, or as a result of another
disability such as cognitive or developmental impairment."

I'm not sure I can honestly way that it leaves me 'unable to function'; I just try to get over it. But the pain and anguish is still there.

Also I am confused as to whether this is about question 9 or 11. In the HP guidance they call it 9a, 9b, 9c...

Thanks

The question in the PIP Claim guide are numbered in the same way as the PIP2, How Your Disability Effects You form. The entries in the Assessment guide are just numbered 1 to 12 so there is a offset between the two and entry 11 in our guide corresponds with entry 9 in the Assessment guide.

The test is in relation to the time that your are with the other people and the effect that your problems have on you then, the only way the after effects of your being with others will be taken into account is if it has an additional impact on your ability to mix with others.

Remember you need to be able to complete all of the PIP activities reliably and on the majority of days.
