ESA Medical was created by Betsy
Hello, I am confused (easily done!!). A few days ago I went with my friend to her ESA medical. She has mental health and physical problems. The medical professional was v. nice and after just a few questions about her mental health, during which she struggled, he said he had enough information and that he wanted to get her home as quickly as possible. The medical was probably only 15 minutes and he insisted that she went home in a taxi that they paid for. She is now worried as it was so quick, that means he had decided that she can work ? and that is why didn't he discuss her physical health ? Her last medical over 2 years ago was about 1 and a half hours. Why would it be so quick ? Thanks in advance.

My guess would be that the assessor was satisfied that they had enough information for them to make a recommendation to the DWP.

I'm afraid I've given up trying to predict an award based on how the assessment went based on how it went or how long it took, we have seen members who had a two hour assessment being found Fit for Work and those who only attended for 10 minutes placed in teh SG and or course th reverse.

All they can do is wait for the Decision.

Thanks for your quick response, do you know how long (approx) decisions are taking ? and can she request the medical report now ? Thanks again.

Best guess is 2-4 weeks although we are moving into the summer period where usually see times increase by at least a couple of week.

The Decision Letter can often take two weeks to arrive so it is worth phoning at the three week stage to see if the Decision has been logged in which case they should be able to tell you what it is.

Thank you again Gordon...and sorry but one last question. My friend has also just had to apply for PIP after being on DLA and today received her appointment for a medical but at home. She didn't request a home visit so is now worried about why the DWP have asked for a home visit. I know how difficult it can be to have a home visit ..... do you know why this might be ? Thanks again and enjoy your break. Betsy

A home assessment is just recognition by the Assessment Provider that they would have had serious problems attending at their offices. There are section in the PIP Claim guide that cover the assessment and the questions they are likely to be asked.
