Hi,

I received the acessors report without having a decision yet.

As i expected it did have lots of lies in there and they there was no focus on his key difficulties around communication, understanding written information and engaging with another person. My son has very complex needs most are mental healt, emotional and behavioural ( ADHD, Anxiety, tourettes, depression, dyspraxia, asthma, ibs, speech and language difficulties, global developmental delay and some more).

Her answers are not consistent with what his EHCP states or consultant reports, she did not even know what a EHCP was and she is a nurse not a mental health nurse. She rushed us and i spoke for my son which was not mentioned. I simplified the last part of the assesment ( money, spelling backwards, remembering words) i wrote some down on paper as he was reluctant to co operate. He forgot the words but she wrote that he completed all tasks not mentioning the help i have givenhim.

Her report was repeated with " no retardation noticed" and she is right, my son has a normal IQ and does average in school however he gets full support from the school, 1:1 all day, private tutor, home to school transport and a full EHCP. I did mention this to her and the extra help he gets during exams, but this was not written on the report or taken into consideration.

She was also very happy to keep on repeating that he used a console during the assesment, but failed to mention that he did so because he was out of his head anxious and the game was very immature, he had even punched the wall during the assesment and we used to console to get him into the assesment and keep him quiet and in the room as he wanted to get out several times.

After i worked myself up i started counting the points she had given. It turned out he scored 18 points on daily living and 12 points on mobility.

If i am correct this means enhanced on both, which is good.
So my question is does the decision maker go by the acessors report? Is it likely that this will be the award?
I am upset by her lies, but the poibts show that he will get what he deserves. Should i write a letter just in case or maybe i just need to calm down and let it pass.

Sorry for the long message but i really could use some input and needed to rant. Thanks

Hello Samantha,

More often than not the Decision Maker will use the Assessors report and the points awarded as the basis for the award. However, if the medical and other evidence in support of the claim is significantly different to what the assessor has recorded, this may be a reason for the DM to ask for further information. This does not happen with any regularity. So on the basis of the points awarded by the Assessor it would appear that your son's award will be as per the recommendation. It may be worthwhile as an exercise to go through the report and make a few brief notes regarding the areas where you feel the assessor may have not recorded things correctly, just in case an appeal is necessary albeit unlikely.
