Hi,
My friend has just received a phone call from DWP stating that they had been underpaid since 2009. The amount is around £29.00 per week. They were informed that the underpayment would be backdated to 2009.
I would be grateful if anyone can let me know how far back the DWP will pay it from please, as I have read various articles that say 2014 or 2011 but none that say from 2009 as my friend was told on the phone.

I can't comment if they have been underpaid since 2009 without more information, the review that the DWP are carrying out only effects claimants moved from Incapacity Benefit to ESA and the transfer process did not start until 2011!

The first thing I would ask is for confirmation of the 2009 If it is correct then this is completely separate from the exercise that the DWP are doing, so how and why is their claim being reviewed?

Hi Gordon,
I thought I would give an update on my question.
I have not seen any paperwork. As far as I am aware, all details were conducted over the phone. However, from what I have been told, it seems the underpayment has been backdated from 2011, not 2009. It was a substantial amount.
I hope this may help others that have been underpaid in the past.
