ESA renewal and Universal Credit

ESA renewal and Universal Credit was created by Patrick
I currently am in receipt of ESA and recfeive £191 per week roughly.

I get the basic plus support group, enhanced disability premium and severe disablement premium.

It expires in October so my renewal should be soon? I haven't received any application forms or notifictaions in the post yet.

My main concern is that I'm unsure what happens if I switch to Universal Credit. Did the government change it so that if I were to be put in the work related group I would be liable to lose money, even if I successfully appealed as it would mean I would be put on the new terms?

I am currently deemed unfit for work, what if they decide to put me in the work related group, how much would I lose? Do I need to worry about how much savings I have if reapplying?

Thanks

There is currently no requirement for ESA claimants to switch to Universal Credit unless they need to make a new claim for one of the other benefits that come under UC in a Full-Service area.

Your ESA award does not expire in October, ESA is an indefinite award which cannot be revised without a new Decision on your claim being made. It may well be that you will be reassessed in October, but even if you are it could take many months for any new Decision to be made.

I was told that it would be up for renewal in October when I phoned a few months ago, maybe even last year. Is it possible they will just let me go on receiving without being assessed? Shouldn't I have heard by now?

I would not expect you to hear until October about a reassessment, it may be deferred but it's unlikely, if you have not spoken to the DWP recently about your claim then it would be worth your checking whether the October date is still showing on their computer system.
