Applying for esa causing issues for pip was created by Gareth
Hello
I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of people experiencing a loss or early reassessment of their pip after having the work capability test for ESA?
I have been advised by Scope to apply for ESA but am scared about losing my pip as I do not feel fit for work but the assessor might.
Thoughts?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I can't recall any member report their PIP being reassessed let alone directly affected by a negative ESA claim.

Hi Gordon
Thanks for that.
I had my PIP assessment 6 months ago, and cannot really say that my situation has changed, even with counseling.
Can I use the same GP letter from back then or would I have to pay for a new one?
Thanks for that.

It depends on what the letter says, if it refers to the PIP activities then I would ask for a new one so it is not classed as being irrelevant to your ESA claim.
If it asked for a home assessment then you will need a new one, even six months is too long for this.

I'll be honest and say that I don't think it will carry much weight.
I realise it is counter-intuitive but you your ability to work is not being assessed, they are looking at whether you can perform a set of daily activities if you cannot hen they will conclude that you are unable to work.
As the letter appears to make no reference to these activities and any problems you would have with completing them, I don't think it is going to help you score the points you need for an award.
If you have not already done, have a look at our ESA Claim guides to help you understand and complete the form.
