Advice needed please

Have current DLA exemption letter for car tax. Just had PIP decision, 10 points, so lose entitlement to car tax. Will definitely be asking for Mandatory Reconsideration.

When does entitlement to car tax stop? Husband is worried about being found with car taxed but no longer entitled to tax. Presumably, if I fail a MR, we will have to then pay to tax our car as entitlement would have ceased? If I then appealed to a Tribunal (and won?) would my husband be able to claim back any money spent on car tax he would have been entitled to, if I hadn’t had to go to Tribunal?

Sure this has probably been asked before, have searched but cannot find anything.

I'm afraid the DVLA has not made any definitive statement on this that I can refer you to, all I can suggest is that you contact them directly.

Hi there,

If you’re not successful in your mandatory reconsideration, remember that getting the standard mobility payment in PIP still gets you a 50% reduction on your car tax.

The 50% discount is not widely known - I only discovered it recently after being on the standard mobility rate of PIP for over a year - I tried to get a refund from them, but no chance!!

Hopefully though you will be successful and you will still get your full discount.

Good luck!!

Jerry.
