Advice required please.
I recived a letter this morning saying that i have been overpaid income support to the tune of £300. They are asking me to repay the amount in one go, i can`t afford to. Am i right in believing that the DWP can only take out a certain ammount of money from benefits to recover repayments.
If so can someone advise me on usuall amounts please.
I DO ACCEPT THE OVERPAYMENT IS MY FAULT
Thankyou.

If you are still receiving Income Support, the maximum amount that can be deducted from your continuing IS entitlement is £9.75 per week.

If you are still receiving social security benefits that are not means-tested, there are no set rules as to how much can be recovered from your weekly benefit, but the DWP state that they are entitled to take up to one third of your existing entitlement to effect a recovery.

If as you say you cannot afford to repay the whole amount in one go and it will cause financial hardship, you can ask the DWP if they would be willing to accept a reasonable amount of weekly instalments?

Hi, help! Received a letter from DWP telling me they have overpayed me £6000 + (INCOME SUPPORT).The reason for overpayment is that my wife received her state pension of £21 per week starting Feb 2007.Apparently we should have notified them at the time so that they could deduct pension from our IS.
4years later in September this year, we received new IS claim form asking for all income from benefits. This obviously prompted their overpayment letter and reduction of £27.50p per week in IS.
Surely its their mistake as DWP handles both benefits? Do we have to repay? If so are we looking at the £10 approx per week repayment( for 12 years!)Any suggestions?

I am afraid that we are not in a position to ggive advice regarding this situaton. See Why can’t you answer a question about my specific claim?

The general rule is that it is the claimants responsibility to notify the DWP of a Change of Cirumstances, this would include someone starting to receive their State Pension.
