DLA and work was created by Adrian O'Connor
Hi,

Hoping to get some help and/or advice from some experienced people on here :woohoo:

I have a severe skin condition which effects everything I do in life from getting in and out of bed, washing, bathing, dressing, walking etc etc. I have constant care needs both through the day and night having to look after my skin.

Through the onset of depression a couple of years ago I enquired about doing some part time work which I was told was ok under the permitted work scheme as I am also on SDA. I was also told it was ok for the DLA even though I am on high rate care and high rate mobility.

I successfully qualified as a driving instructor last year and have been working part time since March this year. I only work part time as I need to look after my skin several times a day.

I have now been sent a letter asking me to attend an interview as there is a query over my benefits. I recently sent profit and loss forms into the Jobcentre Plus for SDA and around 5-6 weeks later this latter.

Am I ok to work whilst on high rate care or am I on dodgy ground?

Hi,

Disability Living Allowance can be an in work benefit, providing of course the work is not incompatible with ones claim. Such an example would be someone claiming High Rate Mobility Component and working as a Traffic Warden, Mountaineer or Window Cleaner etc where walking and mobility is an intrinsic part of the job unless specific demonstratable adaptations are made.

Does the letter say what sort of interview you have been asked to attend, such as Compliance Interview, Interview under Caution or even Work Focussed Interview?

Pete

Thanks for your reply Pete. It is a compliance interview.

The lady from the dept is supposed to ring me back this morning to see if I can reschedule the interview and if she can tell me what its about, though I'm not sure she will tell me anything much

Hi,

Although it sounds scary, Compliance Interviews are carried out for a variety of reasons. In most cases they will check paperwork or ascertain you are not under or over claiming. They can also attend following anonymous reports, such as recently happened to one of our own moderators (Jima1).

If there were serious doubts as to your claim you would be invited for an Interview under Caution.
