Consultant can't write letter directly to DWP

I asked my husbands consultant if he would write a letter in support of my husband asking for a reconsideration of the ESA decision given to him but he says he can't write to them directly without them asking him because of legal reasons. I need to ask DWP to write to him.

Anyone else had this? If I ask DWP to write to him I doubt they will.

We also have an appointment with the Dr to ask the same thing so will this be a waste of time too?

The only legal reasons I can think of for a consultant not giving a letter for you are either (a) it's not in his contract and he's effectively working to rule; or (b) his bosses at the hospital/clinic he works for have told their consultants not to send reports when these are not requested by the DWP.

I'm afraid the only way round it if the DWP doesn't write to him is to get a report privately, either from the same consultant or from another.

GPs' contracts with the NHS don't include reports/letters for patients unless requested by e.g. the DWP, so if you want a report/letter from your GP, it would be private work, and it's entirely up to him whether he (a) refuses, (b) agrees but charges a fee for it, or (c) agrees and does it for free.

Thank you.

The consultant has said he is happy to write a letter in support but only if DWP write directly to him. I could go over his head but wanted to get some points of view from you lovely people on here first.

I'll still keep the GP appointment and if we have to pay so be it.
