Hey all
I have an ESA review later in the year and was wondering if any one could give me some advice. I have MS and cannot walk ore than 30 metres and find it hard to push a wheelchair 50 metres repeatedly. I know that is likely that I would qualify for the support group due to incontinence issues.
As I can walk 30 metres and can't push a wheelchair for 50 metres would this qualify for the support group as well. I have read the ESA guide and it says that if you can walk and then only push a wheelchair so far it is the wheelchair distance that counts.
I was also having a look at the PIP descriptors and on the mobility there are two that could be me.
1) Can walk walk up to 50 metres with an aid, ie walking stick
2) Can push a manual wheelchair more than 50 metres,
where would I likely stand as this is probably going to be the difference whether I get the higher mobility rate or not.

Nobody here is really in a position to state whether you meet a particular criteria or not, and whilst I am sure you realise this, your stating that you do will not necessarily be sufficent with regard to the medical.
You need illustrate how your walking is restricted and support those statements with relevant medical evidence that supports those assertions.
It may well be that this is easy for you to do because of your condition, perhaps not.
Have a look at our ESA Claims on Physical Grounds guide in the members area for examples of how you can relate your specific conditions to the ESA tests.
With regard to PIP, this has not even been passed into law yet, so it is really not possible to offer comment.

Sorry I wasn't clear fella! I am unable to manually propel my wheelchair for 50 metres repeatedly. That is why I was asking the question would the fact that I can only walk 30 metres (I am in the support group now) and will this affect my chances of staying in the support group.
Not gonna be to fussed about PIP right now! Thanks for the sage advice, muchly appreciated
