And I would add that the more constituents that ensure the GP knows about their strugggle and bad experiences with benefits, the better informed they are and that helps the qaulity of Parliamentary debate on welfare reform and might help them negotiate a better deal in reforms than would otherwise be the case.
I would advise though, focussing on medical evidence, and keeping diaries of your own day to day struggle, as part of preparation for any appeal, as well as ensuring you take adsvice from a local CAB or other advice centre, and wherever possible have them represent you

Yes thanks for advice. My problem is I can't go and sit in a waiting room at my local CAB as I get anxious, I even find I can't answer the phone at the moment or panic if I have to go out. This forum is my only way I feel comfortable communicating. My Mum is the one who went to the MP for me and has acted on my behalf with the jobcentre.
Do I need someone from CAB to represent me. and do I have to personally attend? Feel panicky just thinking about it!!

Many of our members have successfuly appealed, using their own wits and the guides in the Members area, so it is not necessary for you to be represented by the CAB. However, most CAB offices has considerable experience in preparing submissions and collecting evidence for an appeal, and if possible, you should make use of this resource.Do I need someone from CAB to represent me. and do I have to personally attend? There are two types of Tribunal hearing; an Oral hearing in which you attend and give evidence, or a Paper hearing which is held in your ansence. Statistically, the succes rate for an Oral hearing is about four times greater than that for a Paper one.

I have attended many oral hearings with claimants and have found that they have shown empathy with the claimant without taking sides. Honesty and being genuine in presenting yourself in front of the Tribunal greatly increases your chance of success.
With a paper hearing they just read words.
If nobody can represent you take a friend or better still a support worker.

My local MP is Bob Ainsworth. How would I make an appointment with him? Would I have to wait for one of his surgery's for example? Thanks for any advice.
