Electric wheelchair users and ESA was created by theresalinder
Hi, My husband has secondary progressive MS, and I gave up work 4 years ago to care for him full time. We have just received notification of transfer from IB to ESA, and I've been looking at the guides as preparation for completing the form. My husband cannot walk at all, so I thought we would be ok and go into the support group, but the phrase ''Mobilising unaided by another person with or without a walking stick, manual wheelchair or other aid if such aid can reasonably be used'' could be taken to include an electric wheelchair as an aid, in which case he is able to mobilise and would only get points for being unable to mount or descend steps. Has anyone else been in this situation? I'd be extremely grateful for any advice or information from anyone please, thanks

An electric wheelchair does not count, but you still need to show that he cannot propel himself in a manual one, in addition to not being able walk.

Thanks for prompt reply Gordon, my husband cannot propel himself at all in a manual wheelchair, so will make sure that we complete the form to that effect, thanks so much
