Hi,

I have a good friend on JSA who lives in an area with little prospects.

She's desperate to relocate to my area which has better opportunities and transport links to Central London to get herself back on the career ladder, and i have offered to give her a place to crash for a few months until she gets the ball rolling jobwise and finds her own place.

I'm in receipt of ESA and DLA (High care and low mobility) Also i receive Housing and Council tax benefit.

I believe i have have to declare her staying with me, especially as she will be using my address with the DWP for her own transfered JSA claim. Will it affect my own benefits or hers? Also, if she finds a job before she finds a place to live, will her being on a salery affect my benefits?

Cheers

Hi,
You would need to get face to face advice on how someone staying with you may affect your current benefits.

As anyone staying with you on a semi permanent basis, would be classed as a change in circumstances, I personally, would play safe, and inform all the Benefit Offices that deal with your payments.

cheers

I have a friend that stays with me, I'm also on HRM & LRC, get housing benefit etc, it doesn't effect my benefits as such, it just means that your friend may have to pay a small amount of rent once you have declared her, since she is also on benefits herself it maybe that she doesn't pay anything, but I agree with bro58 that you should inform the change asap....as I said, it didn't effect my benefits. Well done for helping another, but look after yourself.
